AKUAH is a carefully designed programme of support for young Women (12-16 years) of African descent that provides knowledge, skills and experiences to prepare for adult life. Young Women that complete the initial taster workshops then voluntarily enrol, with the support of their families, onto a much more intensive Rites of Passage Programme. This 2-stage approach provides an opportunity to become familiar with the people and the ideas that make-up the programme before making an informed decision to commit to a programme of cultural enrichment that is guided by an environment conducive for nurturing personal growth and transformation into Womanhood. Recruitment is through families; young people self-refer or agencies make referrals.
