Beginning in 1987, New Initiatives has developed into a well-established
progressive African-centred community facility. We continue today to provide
stimulating environments for community advancement and self-determination.
The impact of our work has been felt locally in Lambeth where we are based,
throughout London and in many parts of the UK. From our base in South London,
our work has taken us into Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
In 2000, New Initiatives embraced the term Rites of Passage to best describe our
approach to working with young people. By doing so we clarified our intentions to
specialise in community development and transition programmes.
This refocused our work and introduced new methods and approaches,
which now includes the notion of ‘the village’ where everyone involved in
supporting young people is introduced to the idea that we are all en-route to our
next stage of Becoming.... |
