Kuumba School works with young people aged 5-12 years of all abilities providing cultural enrichment following an African-centred approach. Kuumba School operates for 5 weeks during young peoples Summer Holidays.

Kuumba School offers active forms of teaching and learning in a challenging and supportive environment. Students are engaged in rigorous academic work and creative activities that is made possible by teachers that have a passion for teaching in a school that has a respect for service and community. These are all hallmarks of New Initiatives.

Kuumba is Swahili for ‘Creativity’. It is also the sixth principle of Kwanzaa and can be interpreted as ‘to do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it’.
